The seminar is intended for those interested in a deeper understanding of German-speaking countries and their culture, traditions, and way of life. The introductory part will present the course content, recommended literature, and conditions for its successful completion.
Attention is paid to topics such as nature, traditions and cultural customs, the concept of country facts (Landeskunde), stereotypes and prejudices, state symbols, the school system (primary and higher education), minority issues, and integration. The importance of tourism for the economies of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will also be discussed. The teaching takes place in the form of work with authentic materials, visual material, videos, and texts.
The student deepens the language competences acquired so far at the B2 language level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The emphasis is mainly placed on the language skills of writing (working with texts of various language styles, own work in the form of home preparation), and topics related to the country facts of German-speaking countries. The student critically evaluates phenomena from the area of D-A-CH country facts, using authentic materials.
Language competences at level B1, according to CEFR (Maturita exam level).
After completing the course, the student demonstrates the ability to characterize selected chapters related to the geography of German-speaking countries in more detail. Furthermore, he/she is able to present advanced knowledge of German grammar, and describe current social, cultural, and political events in German-speaking countries.
