The content of the NC7W course is to deepen knowledge of German grammar and the ability to communicate in German in the workplace, to emphasize the development of all four skills: reading and listening with comprehension, writing economic correspondence and speaking with the aim of acquiring the necessary vocabulary, working with technical terminology based on authentic economic texts, and expanding language competences at level B2, according to the CEFR.
The topics discussed are grammatical, based on grammatical phenomena at level B2 – i.e. the use of individual past tenses, types of subordinate clauses, infinitive constructions, forms of the passive voice, and its use. The professional topics are the structure of the company, planning, meetings and appointments with customers, telephone calls, working hours, types of income, bank transfers, balance sheets, results, communication within the company, working – legal conditions and relations in the workplace, professional qualities. From business correspondence, they will learn how to navigate job offers, how to write a motivation letter correctly, everything that should be included in its attachments, and how to correctly write a business letter, e-mail, invitation to a company event, and thank-you letter. Finally, students present a fictitious company where they will use the knowledge they have acquired from the course.
Develop knowledge of German grammar and ability to communicate in German at work, place emphasis on developing all four skills: reading and listening comprehension, writing business correspondence and speaking with the aim of acquiring the necessary vocabulary, working with professional terminology based on authentic business texts, and expanding language competences to level B2, according to the CEFR.
To successfully master the subject, it is assumed that before the start of the course, the student will be able to find information in short articles and reports in an everyday context, express their opinion and defend it in an everyday context, use common grammatical structures and vocabulary in everyday life situations, use language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, write a coherent, understandable text on a general topic, summarize the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including expert discussions in their field, communicate fluently and spontaneously, write understandable detailed texts on a wide range of topics, explain their point of view on a current problem, stating the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
After completing the course, the student demonstrates the ability to distinguish the main features of a professional business text, and is familiar with vocabulary from the field of company structure, corporate culture, and customer support. He/she can write an invitation, a thank-you letter, a formal business letter, and an e-mail, as well as a motivation letter and a CV. He/she can present the company, actively participate in professionally focused discussions, ask appropriate questions and respond to them, present his/her opinions, and effectively introduce himself/herself at an interview.
