BUSINESS GERMAN 1

Entry into the world of professional German – basics of communication and grammar for an economically oriented environment.

 

The content of the NC5W subject is an introduction to the study of professional German, and further teaching the basics of oral and written communication in an economically oriented work environment. Students will expand their vocabulary with basic phraseology of business language and language competences of level B1, according to the CEFR.

 

The topics discussed in the subject are both grammatical – corresponding to level B1, e.g. past tenses, time data, infinitive with “zu”, subjunctive, passive voice. The professional topics are preparation for work in a company. That is, how to properly write a motivation letter, a professional CV based on the advertised position, how to properly prepare for an interview, the first day at the company, training and integration, work in a department, competences, promotion opportunities, transfer to another job. In business correspondence, candidates will learn how to properly write a business letter, email, invitation to a company event, and thank-you letter.

AIM OF THE SUBJECT:

To consolidate knowledge of German grammar, introduce the study of professional language, teach the basics of oral and written communication in an economically oriented work environment, expand vocabulary with basic phraseology of business language and expand language competences to level B1, according to the CEFR.

STUDENT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

To successfully master the subject, it is assumed that before the start of the course, the student is able to use common grammatical structures and vocabulary in everyday life situations, write a coherent, understandable text on a general topic, summarize information in short articles and reports in an everyday context, express their opinion and defend it in an everyday context, analyse the main ideas regarding common topics that they regularly encounter at work, at school, in their free time, briefly explain and justify their opinions and plans, describe their experiences and events, dreams, hopes, and goals.

After completing the course, the student demonstrates the ability to distinguish the basic terminology of business , and correctly use the declension of adjectives in all forms. He/she is familiar with the use of past tenses, distinguishes the forms of the subjunctive II in spoken and written speech, and works correctly with relative clauses. Furthermore, he/she is able to distinguish and use the forms of the passive voice.
